BDO USA CIO Succession moves forward as the firm named Jim Maza as its next Chief Information Officer. Meanwhile, Russ Ahlers will retire on Sept. 1 after more than ten years of leadership. Maza’s appointment takes effect immediately. However, Ahlers will work closely with him during the transition period. Therefore, BDO aims to ensure smooth leadership continuity. The BDO USA CIO Succession supports the company’s long-term digital strategy. Moreover, the firm plans to use technology to improve innovation, operations, and client service. During his tenure, Ahlers led major growth in BDO’s technology operations. In addition, he helped scale critical systems that supported firm expansion.
“For more than a decade as CIO, Russ has provided steady leadership in helping BDO navigate tremendous growth and rapid technological change,” said Mark Ellenbogen, BDO COO. “He has played a pivotal role in strengthening our technology capabilities and building a strong foundation for the future. I’m incredibly grateful for Russ’ many contributions and his leadership over the years. At the same time, we’re very pleased to welcome Jim to BDO. As we look to the future, our focus on technology and innovation could not be more important. We look forward to benefiting from Jim’s significant experience leading complex technology organizations and transformative initiatives.”
Since becoming CIO in 2015, Ahlers led BDO’s National IT organization. Furthermore, he shaped the company’s technology roadmap and improved security systems. He also launched BDO’s first digital transformation strategy. Likewise, he created the firm’s Data and AI team. As a result, BDO strengthened its position in data-driven innovation. Additionally, Ahlers served in BDO’s global network for many years. He held leadership roles at BDO USA and BDO Global. Currently, he serves as chairman of the BDO International IT Committee.
“It has been a privilege to serve as CIO and to work alongside so many talented professionals across BDO,” said Ahlers. “I’m proud of the framework we’ve built to help the firm innovate responsibly, strengthen how we work, and position our people for the future. I look forward to seeing the great things Jim will accomplish.”
Jim Maza Brings Deep Technology Experience
Maza most recently served as CIO of a leading insurance brokerage and risk management firm. There, he managed an IT team of around 250 professionals. He also brings more than 20 years of experience in enterprise technology and transformation programs. Therefore, BDO expects strong leadership during its next growth phase.
“Russ has built a strong technology foundation for BDO, and I’m grateful for his leadership and the impact he has had across the firm,” said Maza. “I’m looking forward to working with him during this transition and building on the foundation to advance secure innovation and support BDO’s continued growth.”
The BDO USA CIO Succession will continue with close collaboration between both leaders. Meanwhile, the company will maintain momentum across major technology priorities.
