Brown Brothers Harriman Names Kevin Stone as Next Managing Partner

Brown Brothers Harriman

Brown Brothers Harriman today announced a major executive leadership transition. Current Chief Financial Officer Kevin W. Stone will become Managing Partner on January 1, 2027. Consequently, Stone will serve as chief executive officer for the entire firm. He succeeds William B. Tyree, who retires after four decades of service. Tyree will continue as a retired General Partner moving forward.

Founded in 1818, Brown Brothers Harriman operates as a privately-owned global enterprise. Specifically, the firm focuses on two main divisions, Capital Partners and Investor Services. Brown Brothers Harriman maintains long-term independence through careful planning and disciplined growth strategies. Therefore, this executive shift highlights the ongoing commitment to client stability and modern technology investments.

“After more than 42 years at the firm, what I am most proud of is the strength of our people and partnership with clients,” said Tyree, Managing Partner of BBH. “Kevin is a trusted leader who has helped shape this firm for more than three decades. He understands what makes our firm distinctive and is exceptionally well positioned to lead BBH through our next chapter of growth and innovation. I have had the privilege of working closely with him for nearly all of his career, and I know our clients, our people, and our partnership are in good hands.”

Decades of Executive Experience Driving Corporate Growth

Kevin Stone brings 34 years of internal leadership experience to his new role at Brown Brothers Harriman. He joined the organization back in 1992 and held key positions across multiple core divisions. For instance, he directed major initiatives within Service Delivery, Treasury, and Finance operations. Furthermore, Stone has served on the executive committee at Brown Brothers Harriman for over a decade.

Currently, Stone chairs the internal Finance Committee and oversees global human resource operations. He manages compliance policies for 6,000 employees working across 18 worldwide offices. Thus, his extensive background ensures a seamless operational transition for global institutional clients. Brown Brothers Harriman continues expanding its proprietary data capabilities under his ongoing financial stewardship.

“For more than 200 years, BBH’s success has been rooted in a singular focus: helping our clients succeed,” said Stone. “Our private partnership gives us the independence to think long term and invest with purpose in our people, technology, data capabilities, and in innovative solutions that help our clients adapt and grow. Our history gives us perspective, but our future will be earned every day, by listening closely, investing thoughtfully, and delivering with the consistency and care our clients expect. I am honored to lead BBH and confident that our partnership model, our people, and our steadfast focus on clients will continue to set us apart.”

Strengthening Client Relationships Through Innovation

The leadership succession occurs during a period of remarkable commercial momentum for the company. Brown Brothers Harriman continuously secures deep client engagement across international markets. Additionally, the institution invests heavily in modernizing core client platforms and digital infrastructure. Strategic long-term planning remains central to the partnership’s ongoing legacy.
