Johny Srouji becomes Apple Chief Hardware Officer, marking a major leadership shift at Apple. The Johny Srouji appointment strengthens Apple’s hardware leadership and innovation strategy. Moreover, Johny Srouji will now oversee critical hardware engineering functions across Apple.
Apple announced that Johny Srouji will take on the role of chief hardware officer with immediate effect. Previously, he served as senior vice president of Hardware Technologies. Now, he will lead Hardware Engineering and the broader hardware technologies organization. Earlier, John Ternus managed these responsibilities.
“Johny is one of the most talented people I have ever had the privilege to work with,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “He has played a singular role in driving Apple’s silicon strategy, and his influence has been felt deeply not just inside the company, but across the industry. He has always led his organization with remarkable deftness and judgment, and time and again, his team has delivered breakthrough innovations that have transformed our products. We are incredibly fortunate to have him as Apple’s chief hardware officer.”
Furthermore, incoming Apple CEO John Ternus highlighted Srouji’s leadership impact.

Leadership Driving Apple Hardware Innovation
Over the years, Johny Srouji has built a highly skilled team of silicon and technology engineers. As a result, his team has delivered major breakthroughs in custom chips and hardware technologies. These include Apple silicon, batteries, cameras, storage controllers, sensors, displays, and cellular modems. Additionally, these innovations support Apple’s entire product portfolio.
Meanwhile, Apple’s hardware engineering team continues to transform ideas into reliable products. The team manages everything from product design to system engineering. In addition, they handle reliability and durability testing. They also collaborate closely with industrial design, software engineering, and operations teams.
Srouji joined Apple in 2008 to lead the development of the A4 chip. Notably, this was Apple’s first custom system-on-a-chip. Before joining Apple, he held senior roles at Intel and IBM. There, he focused on processor development and advanced chip design. He earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Computer Science from Technion, Israel’s Institute of Technology.
Today, Apple continues to lead global technology innovation. Since launching the Macintosh in 1984, the company has expanded its ecosystem.
