Dewberry, a private professional services firm, appointed David J. Mahoney, PE, as chief executive officer effective April 1, 2026, at its Fairfax headquarters. Mahoney will also join Dewberry’s board of directors while leading the $763-million, 2,500-person organization nationwide. He takes over from Donald E. Stone, Jr., who will advise through June 30 before his planned retirement. Mahoney leads large, complex project portfolios and oversees risk management for key infrastructure sectors for the firm.

Experienced Leader for Growth
Mahoney’s leadership transformed Dewberry’s alternative project delivery group with more than 175 design-build projects exceeding $23 billion. He served as president of Dewberry’s holding company and directed risk programs affecting all business lines. Mahoney also led the transportation practice since 2017, generating more than $1.5 billion in revenue nationwide. He oversaw more than $25 billion in transportation construction for major Departments of Transportation and key authorities. He has four decades of experience, joining Dewberry in 1986 as a project engineer and rising through leadership ranks. Mahoney earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from South Dakota State University in 1984.
