Smith Micro Software today announced that founder Bill Smith has returned as President and Chief Executive Officer. Consequently, he succeeds outgoing chief executive Tim Huffmyer. Huffmyer resigned to pursue other opportunities. However, he will continue to serve on the company’s board of directors.

Smith previously founded and led Smith Micro Software for over four decades. Furthermore, he has served as executive chairman of the board since March 2026.

“When Tim rejoined the Company last year in the dual role of COO and CFO, it was a pivotal time for the Company,” said Smith. “He was the driving force behind our efforts to improve operational efficiency and establish a leaner foundation for growth. His leadership in the dual role, and later as CEO, was instrumental in executing our operational improvement initiatives, resulting in a more efficient organization and a stronger platform for future growth. I want to thank Tim for his contributions to the Company and wish him well in his next chapter.

“I am returning as CEO at an exciting time for the Company,” Smith continued. “With new products entering the market, customer relationships expanding, and a healthy pipeline of prospective opportunities, I am optimistic about our ability to capitalize on the momentum we have created and deliver meaningful value for shareholders.”

Decades of Industry Expertise Drive Growth

Initially, Smith guided Smith Micro Software as chairman, president, and CEO from 1982 until March 2026. Then, he transitioned into the executive chairman position. Academically, Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Grove City College.

As company founder, Smith brings 44 consecutive years of dedicated service. Therefore, his return ensures solid leadership continuity across all operational units. In addition, he provides deep knowledge of the telecommunications and wireless industries.

Accelerating Wireless Solutions and Strategic Momentum

Meanwhile, Smith Micro Software continues to expand its technology footprint across mobile networks globally. Demand for carrier-grade family safety applications remains high. As such, executive management will concentrate on making full use of the active sales pipeline.

Moreover, the company intends to improve strategic relationships with wireless carriers. Providing solutions for mobile devices can ensure steady streams of income. Therefore, Smith Micro Software is still capable of creating value for shareholders.

Finally, efficient executive management will allow software developers to develop products faster. Going forward, Smith Micro Software will build on its solid platform for further growth.
