Great Hill Partners announced a key leadership addition today. Specifically, Great Hill Partners appointed experienced artificial intelligence leader Sam Liu as Director of AI on its Growth Team. The prominent firm invests globally in high-growth, disruptive companies.
In this new role, Liu works closely with investment professionals at Great Hill Partners. He also uses advanced technology and repeatable processes to augment pattern recognition, proprietary insights, and deal sourcing throughout the investment lifecycle. Liu also collaborates with the Growth Team to help portfolio companies leverage artificial intelligence for product innovation, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.
A Decade of Enterprise AI Leadership
Liu previously worked for more than 10 years designing and deploying enterprise AI solutions. Most recently, he was an Associate Partner in Bain & Company’s artificial intelligence practice. There, he advised Fortune 500 corporations and private equity firms on artificial intelligence strategy, agentic models, machine learning, and enterprise transformation. Before Bain, Liu spent nearly eight years at Boston Consulting Group, spearheading large-scale initiatives across diverse industries. Earlier in his career, he engineered machine learning models for supply chain forecasting and predictive maintenance at Dell EMC and Intel.
“The pace of AI innovation is unlike anything we’ve seen before, and it is creating new opportunities to make investment teams more effective,” said Mike Thompson, Managing Director and Head of the Growth Team. “We are focused on thoughtfully incorporating the right AI tools into how we source, evaluate, and support companies. We believe Sam’s experience implementing and scaling AI will help accelerate that work across both our investment process and our portfolio company value creation efforts.”
“I’m excited to join Great Hill at a time when advances in AI are creating meaningful opportunities for investors and their portfolio companies,” said Liu. “What drew me to Great Hill was the firm’s conviction that AI can be applied in practical, measurable ways to strengthen how teams operate and create value. I look forward to partnering with the team to build applications that seek to enhance decision-making, increase efficiency, and support lasting value creation across the portfolio.”
To conclude, Liu holds a Master of Information and Data Science from the University of California, Berkeley. Furthermore, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Consequently, Great Hill Partners strengthens its technological edge as digital transformation accelerates across global markets.
