In an exclusive interview, Michael Alicea, Chief Human Resources Officer at Trellix, emphasized that the company’s success with generative AI is grounded in the integrity of its data. AI has become an integral part of Trellix’s internal operations and customer solutions, but its effectiveness directly reflects the strength of the data behind it.
Internally, Trellix adopted generative AI to improve efficiency in HR functions. AI-powered chatbots now handle employee queries about benefits and leave policies, tailored by geography and employment terms. This shift hasn’t displaced HR professionals; rather, it has freed them from routine tasks and opened doors to strategic roles. Three People Services team members, for instance, have already transitioned into HR business partner positions.
Beyond HR, Trellix also leverages AI in its software development processes. Automating repetitive coding tasks has accelerated product delivery while allowing engineers to focus on innovation and design. Alicea highlighted that AI at Trellix doesn’t replace humans—it enhances them.
Training employees to engage confidently with AI has been another critical step. Trellix promotes hands-on experimentation, paired with rigorous review of AI’s data sources. Initially, AI outputs were accurate just half the time. However, consistent feedback and refinement have now raised that accuracy to over 90%.
Alicea noted that ethical responsibility and data validation are at the core of Trellix’s AI strategy. Past industry experiences taught the team hard lessons about data bias—like an AI hiring tool that once favored specific demographics due to flawed training data. Trellix has since adopted strict data integrity protocols and constant monitoring to minimize bias and hallucinations in AI outputs.
On the client side, Trellix sees varied levels of AI readiness, especially in highly regulated sectors like finance and healthcare. The company tailors its solutions based on a client’s maturity and compliance requirements. As the tangible benefits of AI—especially in cybersecurity areas like threat detection—become evident, even the most conservative clients are showing growing interest.
Looking ahead, Trellix plans to deepen AI integration both internally and externally. From basic chatbot functions to advanced, customer-facing tools, generative AI is poised to become a staple across industries within the next few years. But as Alicea made clear, data quality will remain the bedrock of that progress.
Trellix’s journey offers a powerful reminder: when organizations invest in high-quality data, human-AI collaboration, and ethical AI deployment, generative AI becomes not just a tool—but a transformative force.
