Selective Insurance Group, Inc. has officially named Jacob E. “Jake” Rothfuss as Executive Vice President and President, Standard Lines. In this key leadership position, Rothfuss will oversee both Standard Commercial Lines and Standard Personal Lines businesses.
Furthermore, he will directly report to John J. Marchioni, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Selective Insurance. Rothfuss will assume his new executive duties no later than April 2027 after completing existing contractual obligations.
“Jake has a proven track record of underwriting excellence, operational leadership, and profitable growth,” Marchioni said. “Throughout his career, he has successfully led complex insurance businesses while maintaining a disciplined underwriting focus. He is well-positioned to lead our Standard Lines organization and build on the strong foundation we have established across our Commercial and Personal Lines segments.”
Proven Executive Track Record in Commercial and Personal Lines
Rothfuss moves to Selective Insurance from Velocity Risk Underwriters, a division of Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers. He served as Chief Executive Officer there starting in 2023.
Previously, he joined that firm in 2018 as Chief Operating Officer and Head of Systematized Risk. Later, the board named him President in 2020. During his tenure, Rothfuss expanded operations through disciplined execution and operational leadership.
Earlier in his career, Rothfuss spent nearly ten years at Farmers Insurance holding several leadership positions. Eventually, he served as Chief Operating Officer of Business Insurance, driving performance through strategic pricing and organizational improvements. He originally began his insurance career at The Hartford, managing various product lines across personal auto, homeowners, and small commercial insurance.
“I have long admired Selective’s culture of underwriting, its strong relationships with independent insurance agencies, and its history of disciplined, profitable growth,” said Rothfuss. “I’m excited to join the team and help build on that success across the company’s Commercial and Personal Lines businesses. Selective has a unique franchise, and I look forward to working with employees and agency partners to continue delivering value to customers while driving profitable growth.”
Driving Strategic Growth Across Insurance Markets
Academically, Rothfuss earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Brockport. In addition, he holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Competitive Strategy from the University of Rochester.
Consequently, his vast leadership experience will strengthen overall market expansion for Selective Insurance. The company continues to enhance its strong distribution network with independent agency partners.
Furthermore, this appointment reflects the firm commitment of Selective Insurance to disciplined underwriting and operational excellence. Industry analysts expect Rothfuss to drive consistent value across all standard insurance portfolios. Ultimately, Selective Insurance remains well-positioned to deliver long-term value for shareholders and policyholders alike.
