Newmont Names Peter Beaven to its Board of Directors

Newmont

Newmont Corporation today officially expanded its corporate governance structure. Executive leaders named former BHP finance chief Peter Beaven to the Board of Directors, effective Sept. 1, 2026.

Beaven will therefore serve on the Board’s Audit Committee. He brings deep global mining and financial experience to Newmont’s executive team. Before this, Beaven was Group Chief Financial Officer of BHP from 2015 to 2021. He has led global finance functions in strategy and capital allocation during his tenure. He also handled corporate mergers, acquisitions, risk frameworks and investor relations.

Beaven also operated in executive leadership roles overseeing copper, base metals, manganese and carbon steel assets. He was also previously Non-Executive Chair of the International Copper Association. This executive appointment is therefore a reinforcement of Newmont’s core governance capabilities in global markets.

Strategic Mining Governance and Board Leadership Quotes

The inclusion of experienced mining executives supports the long-term capital allocation strategy of the gold producer. Consequently, the board transition enhances financial oversight across complex international resource operations.

“We are pleased to welcome Peter to our Board as an acknowledged extractive industry leader,” said Greg Boyce, Chair of Newmont’s Board of Directors. “His experience across large-scale resource businesses will build on the deep and diverse expertise of our current Board of Directors.”

“Peter’s financial and strategic expertise will be valuable as Newmont continues to focus on disciplined portfolio management, operational performance and long-term, sustainable value creation,” said Natascha Viljoen, President and Chief Executive Officer at Newmont. “I look forward to working with Peter as part of our Board to deliver Newmont’s strategy.”

Focus on Global Operations and Environmental Governance

Newmont was established in 1921 and today is the world’s leading gold producer. The mining company is actively extracting valuable copper, zinc, lead, silver, and molybdenum resources. It is also the only gold producer in the elite S&P 500 index. The company has several production plants in North America, South America, Australia, and Africa.

Therefore, strong governance structures remain key to the safe operation of these international operations. Beaven’s very deep experience in capital allocation complements the current operational priorities directly. His risk management experience also supports oversight of environmental, social and sustainability initiatives.

Modern mining businesses are faced with evolving regulatory demands and volatile global commodity markets. So, good financial stewardship increases long-term value creation for international shareholders. Newmont remains focused on disciplined asset management in combination with principled environmental practices. The appointment of the executive has been a strategic move that will allow Newmont to effectively advance its global resource portfolio.
