Lyft, Inc. announced today that Lyft Appoints Senthil Padmanabhan as its new Chief Technology Officer. He officially joins the ride-sharing giant on July 20, 2026. Furthermore, he will report directly to CEO David Risher. Padmanabhan brings decades of deep technical experience to this executive team. He operates effectively at every altitude of technical leadership. Consequently, he drives company-wide change while solving complex engineering problems.
Previously, Senthil Padmanabhan served as the VP of Engineering at eBay. The e-commerce giant first recognized him as a Technical Fellow. Meanwhile, he successfully scaled eBay’s core engineering platform, applications, and infrastructure. His strategic leadership helped eBay secure its segment leader position. Specifically, the platform dominated in key categories like Parts & Accessories and Collectibles. Additionally, his infrastructure upgrades made eBay the fastest e-commerce site globally.
Driving AI Transformation and Innovation
He also led a massive, company-wide AI transformation at eBay. As a result, Lyft Appoints a leader who fundamentally changes what engineering teams can build. This technology enhanced customer experiences and increased engineering throughput. He completely transformed team workflows to reduce deployment cycle times. Therefore, teams achieved 10x more deployments than four years ago. They also ran 6x more experiments over the same period.
Currently, many companies use AI merely to cut operational costs. However, Lyft Appoints this technical veteran because the company is betting differently on AI capabilities. The ride-sharing platform wants to create faster innovations for riders and drivers. Specifically, they aim to build experiences that were previously impossible.
Building the Future of Ride-Sharing
At the company, Lyft Appoints Padmanabhan to manage the critical engineering foundations. These technical systems power everything the company builds today. Moreover, robust foundations matter more than ever during this AI era. Padmanabhan will set the future direction for these systems. He plans to build on a world-class technical foundation. Consequently, this will unlock what the company can deliver to users. The technology will help riders get to their destinations smoothly. Furthermore, it will support the drivers who make those trips possible. This system ultimately connects people to their local communities.
“Lyft has a clear purpose, a product millions of people love and rely on every day, and a team that genuinely cares about getting it right,” said Senthil. “My job is to make sure the Lyft ceiling keeps rising – using technology to multiply what we can achieve and unlock what wasn’t possible before.”
Outside of work, Padmanabhan is an avid reader. He is also a self-described foodie. He loves exploring new restaurants with his sons. Interestingly, he and his wife are longtime Lyft riders. They frequently use scheduled rides to the airport. His personal tip: book the night before, and the rest takes care of itself.
