Lyft officially expanded its governance team today. Consequently, Alaska Air Group CEO Ben Minicucci joined the board of directors, effective July 23, 2026. This strategic appointment brings extensive public company experience to the growing organization. Furthermore, Minicucci offers deep operational mastery as Lyft scales its business goals. His arrival follows autonomous vehicle expert Deborah Hersman, who joined the board of directors earlier this year.
Strategic Growth and Executive Background
Meanwhile, Minicucci spent over two decades building Alaska Air Group, the parent company of Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Horizon Air. He was hired by Alaska in 2004 from Air Canada, where he oversaw technical operations. He also managed two major aviation integrations, acquiring Virgin America in 2016 and Hawaiian Airlines in 2024. His extensive experience in international expansion and global loyalty programs will directly benefit the company’s executive leadership.
Additionally, Minicucci served 14 years in the Canadian Armed Forces. He holds mechanical engineering degrees from the Royal Military College of Canada. Also, he completed executive training at Harvard Business School. Today, Minicucci lives in Seattle and frequently relies on Lyft rideshare services. This addition strengthens the governance oversight of the board of directors during an important corporate expansion phase.
“As Lyft grows, our Board grows and evolves with it. Ben has led a major public company through significant international expansion, and he’s done it with a relentless focus on safety, operational excellence, and people,” said Lyft CEO David Risher. “We’ve long enjoyed collaborating with Alaska Airlines, sharing a similar culture of customer obsession. I couldn’t be more excited to welcome Ben’s perspective to our Board.”
“Whether you’re running an airline or a rideshare platform, success comes from earning trust, building loyalty, and offering a safe and reliable experience every day,” Minicucci said. “Lyft has built a strong brand and a clear focus on customers, and I’m excited to join the Board and work with the team as they continue to grow and create value for riders, drivers, and shareholders.”
Strengthening Market Position and Operational Excellence
This strategic governance update reaffirms Lyft’s long-term commitment to operational excellence across its mobility network. The company continues to invest in rider safety features while expanding driver earning opportunities. Minicucci’s deep logistics experience will help maximize platform efficiency as well, the executive leadership said.
Another key part of Lyft’s ongoing market strategy is to expand its global travel partnerships. We are building seamless transit experiences for worldwide travelers by combining airline loyalty features with rideshare platform connectivity. This means Minicucci’s expertise aligns perfectly with corporate initiatives to increase customer retention.
At the end of the day, Lyft continues to solidify its place as a dominant urban transportation ecosystem in the marketplace. The executive leadership team continues to focus on sustainable financial performance and strategic technology investments. This will ensure consistent operational performance and long-term value creation for shareholders.
