Cameo Appoints Mackenzie O’Connor Chief Operating Officer

Cameo has officially promoted former intern Mackenzie O’Connor to the position of Chief Operating Officer. The popular fan engagement platform announced the major executive leadership shifts today.

O’Connor joined the Chicago-based marketplace as a public relations intern back in 2017. Over nine years, she earned ten internal promotions across multiple key departments. She previously managed customer support, talent acquisition, and strategic product growth initiatives. Consequently, her steady rise reflects an incredible story of internal career mobility.

As the newly appointed Chief Operating Officer, O’Connor will direct overall marketplace strategy and corporate growth. Furthermore, she will oversee talent management, enterprise revenue streams, and human resources. She plans to work alongside engineering and product leaders to scale company operations. Therefore, this strategic promotion aligns directly with Cameo’s long-term marketplace goals.

Driving Strategic Growth and Talent Leadership

O’Connor first discovered the company during a college career fair at Columbia College Chicago. Subsequently, she pitched company founder Steven Galanis directly to secure a full-time role. The company then created its very first customer support position specifically for her. Later, she joined Cameo’s associate product manager program to deepen her operational knowledge.

“Cameo has given me the opportunity to learn, take risks and grow alongside a company and team I deeply believe in,” said O’Connor. “I have experienced nearly every stage of this business, from answering customer questions and recruiting talent to building products and leading major parts of the organization. I am excited to bring those experiences together as COO and help write Cameo’s next chapter.”

“Mackenzie is a hungry, humble, kind, curious, learning machine who loves to win. It was clear from the moment she joined Cameo that she epitomizes our cultural values,” said Galanis. “Nine years and ten promotions later, she understands every part of this company, earns the trust of the people around her and consistently steps into the hardest problems we face. Her path from intern to COO captures the ambition and resilience that have defined Cameo from the beginning.”

By 2023, O’Connor stepped up as Chief of Staff to guide corporate restructuring efforts. Soon after, she took over leadership for Cameo for Business and overall talent management. Now, as Chief Operating Officer, she assumes direct responsibility for driving sustainable business performance.
