Wellspring today announced that Chris Fanning has become its Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Fanning succeeds Sean Downs, who is stepping down from the leadership position. In this strategic role, Fanning will guide Wellspring through its next chapter of expansion and product development.
Fanning brings more than 30 years of global leadership experience across technology and software sectors. Furthermore, he has repeatedly turned product and market opportunities into sustained commercial growth.
Most recently, he served as CEO of KPA, an Environmental Health & Safety software provider. In that role, he transformed the business into a high-growth SaaS provider. Consequently, he more than doubled annual recurring revenue during his tenure.
Earlier in his career, he held key leadership roles at Survey Sampling International, Lattice Semiconductor, and BCG. Throughout his career, he built growth strategies and strengthened product portfolios for global enterprises.
“Chris has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to scale technology businesses, strengthen products, and accelerate growth,” said Fred Sturgis, Managing Director at Resurgens Technology Partners, a software-focused private equity firm and investor in Wellspring. “As Wellspring enters its next phase of growth, his combination of software experience, customer orientation, and operating discipline makes him the right leader to take the company forward. We remain fully committed to Wellspring’s growth and are excited to partner with Chris to build on its momentum.”
Global Innovation Management and Scalable Software Platform
Currently, Wellspring operates a global multiproduct platform for corporate, academic, and government client networks. Corporate innovation teams rely on Wellspring software to link product portfolios directly to revenue growth. Meanwhile, research institutions use the platform to streamline technology transfer and reduce manual effort.
Client commitments and daily operations will continue without interruption during the executive transition. Additionally, the development roadmap for Accolade, Evolve, and Astria platforms remains on schedule. This includes advanced artificial intelligence features introduced throughout the past year.
“Wellspring represents an outstanding opportunity: a global company with meaningful customer relationships, important products, and continued potential to grow,” said Fanning. “I’m excited to join this talented team and build on the strong foundation already in place. My focus will be to listen to our customers, understand where their needs are going, and help our teams continually make great products even better. By combining a relentless customer-first mindset with product innovation, commercial excellence, and disciplined execution, I believe we can deliver even greater value to customers and take Wellspring to new levels of growth and success.”
Operational Continuity and Executive Leadership Transition
Downs will work closely with Fanning to ensure a seamless leadership handoff. Meanwhile, existing client accounts and enterprise partnerships will remain completely unchanged.
“Sean led Wellspring through a period of significant transformation, and the business would not be where it is today without his leadership. We’re grateful for his partnership and the strong platform he built,” said Sturgis.
