Bausch + Lomb and Bausch Health Appoint Thomas J. Appio as Interim Bausch + Lomb CEO, Expect to Raise Full-Year 2026 Guidance

Bausch Health

Bausch + Lomb Corporation and Bausch Health Companies Inc. announced a strategic leadership update. Thomas J. Appio takes over as interim chief executive officer for Bausch + Lomb. Meanwhile, Appio continues his ongoing responsibilities as the chief executive officer of Bausch Health. This executive transition takes effect immediately across both organizations.

Appio stepped into the role of chairman for Bausch + Lomb in August 2026. The board highlights his extensive global management background as a key advantage. His long history with Bausch Health also positions him well to guide ongoing corporate operations. The executive leadership team expects smooth continuity throughout this operational phase.

“The opportunity to lead Bausch + Lomb is both a privilege and a responsibility that I embrace with great enthusiasm,” said Appio. “Our company is built on the strength of our people, the quality of our portfolio and a relentless commitment to serving customers and patients around the world. With a strong foundation, we are well positioned to build on our momentum and deliver sustainable growth.”

Growth Trajectory and Strategic Outlook

Appio has spearheaded operations at Bausch Health since 2022. Under his leadership, Bausch Health delivered thirteen consecutive quarters of year-over-year growth in revenue. Additionally, adjusted EBITDA performance consistently expanded over that same period. Before the 2022 initial public offering, Appio held several key positions within the organization. He joined as managing director for China in 2010. Later, he served as president of international operations starting in 2016.

Concurrently, Brent Saunders departed from his role as chief executive officer. Saunders led Bausch + Lomb beginning in 2023. Ultimately, Saunders and the board agreed mutually on his departure.

“When I returned to Bausch + Lomb, I believed this company had tremendous potential,” said Saunders. “Today, it is stronger, more focused and better positioned for the future, with a clearer strategy, a more robust pipeline and significant opportunities ahead. The progress we’ve made reflects the talent, passion and commitment of colleagues across the organization, and I’m proud of everything we’ve accomplished together.”

Looking ahead, Bausch Health remains focused on executing its long-term strategic targets. Company updates signal continued commercial stability under this consolidated executive oversight.
